Mt Kenya Climbing.

GCS-K 701: 5  DAYS MT KENYA TREK

The scenery of forest moorland and glaciers is spectacular. On your trek, you will see Colubus monkey, elephant or buffalo. This walk takes you up the mountain via the Sirimon route with unforgettable scenes of the diverse vegetation. You will also touch ice and snow on the equator.

Day 1: Nanyuki
Depart Nairobi in early morning driving north accompanied by our mountain guide in a shared taxis. After a drive of two and a half-hours we arrive in Nanyuki where we spend the night in one of the lodges at the foot of Mt. Kenya.

Day 2: Sirimon track
A short drive in the morning will take us to the Sirimon track. We start our trek. We walk to Old Moses Camp (5 hours walk). Overnight at old Moses Camp (3,400m).

Day 3: Mackinders Valley
Our hike takes us via Mackinder's Valley to Shipton's Camp (5 hours walk). Night at Shipton's Camp (4,200m).

Day 4: Point Lenana
Early in the morning we climb Point Lenana (4,985m). On a very clear day we should be able to see Mt.Kilimanjaro in the South. From the top we walk down to the Meteorological Station (6-7 hours walk). Night at the bandas at the Met. Station.

Day 5: Nairobi.
After a morning trek, depart back to Nairobi, arriving in the late afternoon.

 GCS -K 702: MT. KENYA SCENIC TREK - 4 DAYS

Day 1: Nairobi/Naromoru.
Leave Nairobi to Naro Moru arriving at Lunchtime. After lunch proceed to Naro Moru Park Gate and start hiking from this point to the Met. Station a distance of 9 km, which takes 3 hours. Dinner and overnight.

Day 2: Mackinders Camp.
After breakfast continue ascent to Mackinders Camp for dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Point Lenana.
Wake up at around 2.30 am and attempt Point Lenana via Austrian Hut. After Point Lenana at 4985m descend down to Mintos Hut for breakfast then continue further down to Mountain Bandas with picnic lunch en-route. Dinner and overnight at the Bandas.

Day 4: Chogoria - Nairobi.
After an early breakfast leave the mountain via the Bamboo forest to Chogoria village by land rover[extra cost]. After lunch take your transport back to Nairobi where the tour ends.

GCS-K 703: MT. KENYA HIKING (NARO MORU - CHOGORIA) - 5 DAYS

Day 1: Nairobi - Naromoru.
Leave Nairobi for Naro Moru arriving in time for lunch. Drive to the base hotel where you spend the rest of the afternoon relaxing. Dinner and overnight at the camp.

Day 2: Naromoru - Met Station.
After breakfast drive to the park gate (2460 m) where the trek starts. The 3 hours walk covers 9 kms through equatorial rain forest. Dinner and overnight at Met Station at 3,048 m.

Day 3: Mackinders Camp.
At 7.30 hours in the morning, trek past the vertical bog and beautiful vegetation e.g. Giant lobelia, Hagenia. Picnic lunch en-route. After lunch proceed down to Teleki Valley arriving at Mackinders Camp (4300 m) in the late evening, dinner and overnight at the camp.

Day 4: Point Lenana.
An early pre-dawn ascent to Point Lenana via the Austrian Hut(4985 m) through the Lewis Glacier to reach the summit at 6.30 in time to see the sunrise. We then descend to Mintos Hut for breakfast. Later continue down along the famous Gorges Valley to the Mountain Bandas. Lunch en-route and dinner and overnight at the Bandas.

Day 5: Chogoria - Nairobi.
Leave at 7.30 am through Bamboo forest for a trek that takes 5-6 hours to Chogoria town. After lunch at the town we are transfered to Nairobi where the tour ends.

 GCS-K 704: "AROUND MOUNTAIN KENYA" TREK

Day 1: Nairobi - Nanyuki.
Depart Nairobi at 9.30 am for Nanyuki, a journey which takes approximately 3 hours. After lunch walk around this small town or relax in the hotel preparing yourself for the next few days trek. Dinner and overnight at hotel.

Day 2: Nanyuki - Sirimon Park Gate - Old Moses Camp.
After breakfast transfer to the park gate where, after checking in, we commence our hike accompanied by the guide, cook and porters. Our trek goes through the rain forest made up of bamboo, rosewood and other vegetation to Old Moses Camp at 3,300 metres. From the gate to the mountain hut is a 3 hours hike that covers nine kilometres. Dinner and overnight.

Day 3: Old Moses - Shiptons Camp.
Our six to seven hours trek takes us through heath and moorland where wildlife abound and comprise of buffalo, rock hyrax and dik dik. We reach Shiptons Camp at an altitude of 4,200 m for dinner and overnight.

Day 4: Shiptons Camp.
After breakfast you may take an acclimatization hike to Hausberg col (4,700m) before coming back to Shiptons for dinner and overnight.

Day 5: Mackinders Camp.
Wake up early morning, start for Point Lenana (4,985 m) which is reached just before sunrise - this is an ascent of about 800 metres in three and a half-hours. Descend via the Lewis Glacier to the Austrian Hut (4,790 m) and continue to Mackinders Camp (4,200m) for overnight. The descent from Point Lenana to Mackinders takes about two hours.

Day 6: Nairobi.
After breakfast at 8.00 am we cross the vertical bog to the road ahead where we are picked up for our transfer to our base hotel for showers and lunch. In the afternoon we are driven to Nairobi where our hike terminates.

Mt Kilimanjaro Climbing.

GCS-T 701: Marangu Trek (7 days).

Day 1: Arusha - Marangu.
Transfer to Marangu. Dinner and overnight at a hotel lodge / camp.

Day 2: Marangu - Mandara Hut (2,744 M):
Distance: 9 kms. Estimated duration: 4 hours.
Depart from your hotel, drive straight to Marangu National Park gate, where the climb begins (1860m) on the edge of the mountain forest. Walk through the semi tropical dense rain forest, with camphor, cedar, juniper, wild olive and pillar trees festooned with lianas, lichens and Spanish moss. Flowers of various species delight the eyes, while monkeys shake trees and terraccos and other colourful forest birds sing in the forest profusion. The walking takes 4 hours covering 9 km to Mandara Hut, at 2744 m near Maundi Crater. Dinner and overnight at Mandara Hut.

Day 3: Mandara Hut - Horombo Hut (3,761 M).
Distance: 11kms. Estimated duration: 5 hours.
Starting early in the morning towards Horombo Hut you walk 5 hours, to cover the first 4 km or so, the dense rain forest now gives way to the rolling moorland, clothed in knee-high grass tussocks dotted here and there with giant heather trees, some standing upto 9 m high. Here is perhaps the most pleasant point, where the landscape is decorated with tropical flowers and the sun is refreshingly warm. From here, both Kibo and Mawenzi Peaks are magnificently viewed. Some animal species are found here, i.e. bush duikers etc. The landscape becomes more rugged and rocky, as you continue to Horombo Hut at 3761 m above sea level. Dinner and overnight at the Horombo Hut. You should have warm clothes due to strong winds here.

Day 4: Horombo Hut - Kibo Hut (4,700 M).
Distance: 10kms. Estimated duration: 5 hours.
After breakfast, continue to Kibo Hut through the euphorbia trees and here high altitude causes difficulty in breathing and tiredness is felt. The path leading you to Kibo Hut passes the water streams and skirts MAWENZI before opening out into the lunar landscape of the saddle. It forms a "U" between MAWENZI and KIBO Peaks. You will experience the winter nights as cold and icy winds encircle the huts accompanied by frost and snow. Dinner and overnight at KIBO Hut.

Day 5: Uhuru Peak - Horombo Hut (3,761 M).
Distance: 24kms. Estimated duration: 12-13 hours.
Wake up after midnight for the final attempt to the summit. Walk for about 5 hours, the steepest and most difficult part of the route, to GILMAN'S POINT at 5681 m above sea level, on the Crater rim. Try again if your stamina allows, for UHURU Peak, reached in about 2 hours. This is the highest point in Africa. After signing the visitors book, descend to Horombo Hut, for dinner and overnight.

Day 6: Horombo Hut - Marangu Hotel.
Descend to Marangu Gate then transfer to Marangu or Kibo Hotel for dinner and overnight.

Day 7: Marangu - Arusha.
After breakfast, Depart for Arusha arriving in the afternoon.

GCS-T 702: Kilimajaro Fast Trek (6 days).

Day 1: Arusha - Marangu.
Distance: 9 kms. Estimated duration: 4 hours.
Leave Arusha after breakfast and drive to Marangu Gate, where you will start the trek to Mandara Hut. Lunch, dinner and overnight at Mandara Hut.

Day 2: Marangu - Mandara Hut (2,744 M).
Distance: 11kms. Estimated duration: 5-7hours.
After breakfast trek slowly to Horombo Hut. Lunch, dinner and overnight at Horombo Hut.

Day 3: Horombo Hut (3,761 M).
Full day at Horombo Hut acclimatizing to the higher altitudes.

Day 4: Horombo Hut - Kibo Hut (4,700 M).
Distance: 10kms. Estimated duration: 5-7 hours.
After breakfast trek from Horombo Hut to Kibo Hut. Lunch, dinner and overnight at Kibo Hut .

Day 5: Kibo Hut - Summit - Mweka Hut.
Distance: 8kms. Estimated duration: 7 hours.
Early start to the summit arriving there by daybreak after a long trek. Then descend slowly to Mweka Hut. Lunch, dinner and overnight at Mweka Hut.

Day 6: Mweka Hut - Arusha.
Distance: 10kms. Estimated duration: 3-4 hours.
Leave from Mweka Hut after breakfast and descend down to Mweka Gate where you will be picked up for the drive back to Arusha Town.

GCS-T 703: Machame Route Trek (8 days).

Day 1: Nairobi - Arusha/Moshi.
Drive to Arusha/Moshi via Namanga boarder where on completion of immigration formalities you will proceed either to Arusha or Moshi for overnight in a hotel/cottage.

Day 2: Arusha/Moshi - Mweka - Machame Hut.
Estimated duration: 6 hours.
An early start will ensure that you reach Mweka gate in time for the trek to Machame hut. Dinner and overnight will be at your camp in Machame.

Day 3: Machame hut - Shira Hut (3,658 M).
Estimated duration: 4 hours.
After breakfast you will hike to Shira Hut. The trek takes you through rain forest and steep rocky ridges. After a short rest dinner will be served at the camp. The evening will also be spent at the camp.

Day 4: Shira Hut - Barranco Hut (3,680 M).
Estimated duration: 6 hours.
From Shira Hut trek towards Barranco hut. the terk will bypass the lava tower, proceed to the arrow glacier at an altitude of 4,876 metres before descending to Barranco Hut.

Day 5: Barranco Hut - Barafu Hut (4,600 M).
Estimated duration: 8 hours.
After breakfast we leave Barranco and continue to the Karanga valley for the junction which connects with the Mweka trail. We hike to the Barafu Hut where we set up camp. Dinner and overnight at the Barafu Hut campsite. There are possibilities of sighting both the Mawenzi and Kibo peaks.

Day 6: Barafu Hut - Stella Point - Uhuru Peak - Mweka Campsite.
Estimated duration: 11 hours.

An early rise for Stella point at an altitude of 5,745 metres on our way to the summit Uhuru peak which is 5,896 metres above sea level. From the summit we descend to the Mweka campsite at 3,100 metres above sea level. Dinner and overnight at the campsite.

Day 7: Mweka Hut - Arusha.
After breakfast we descend to the Mweka Park gate to connect transport to Arusha for overnight.

Day 8: Arusha - Nairobi.
After breakfast depart from Nairobi where you arrive before lunch.

GCS-T 704: Umbwe Route Trek (8 days).

Day 1: Nairobi - Arusha.
Leave Nairobi for Arusha by shuttle bus arriving in the afternoon. The afternoon will be at leisure with accommodation in a budget hotel, you can use this opportunity for shopping and arranging your gear. Dinner and overnight in your hotel.

Day 2: Arusha - Lava caves.
Estimated duration: 4 hours.
Morning transfer to Marangu gate then to Umbwe village for commencement of hike. Trek to the Lava caves for dinner and overnight. The lava caves are at an elevation of 2800 metres above sea level.

Day 3: Lava caves - Barranco Hut.
After breakfast, continue ascent along sharp ridge, giving a distinct high mountain feeling, then unto the moorland and arrive in Barranco hut in the afternoon. Dinner and overnight at Barranco hut.

Day 4: Barranco Hut - Arrow glacier.
Estimated duration: 4 hours.
A medium trek past enormous breach walls to camp at the foot of the Arrow glacier. In the afternoon you will acclimatize at 4,900 metres and watch the sunset behind Mt. Meru.

Day 5: Arrow glacier - Kilimanjaro Crater Rim.
Through steep walls and scrambling up the screen and past the frozen lava on the tottering wall we will arrive to camp by the stunning crater rim of Kilimanjaro.

Day 6: Kilimanjaro Crater Rim - Horombo Hut.
As usual you will start in the early morning to conquer the Uhuru peak at 5,896 metres and descend through Gilmans point and onto Kibo hut for dinner and overnight. Kibo hut is situated at an elevation of 3,761 metres.

Day 7: Horombo hut - Arusha/Moshi.
After breakfast descend to the Marangu Park gate via Mandara hut and connect transport to Arusha or Moshi for overnight.

Day 8: Arusha/Moshi - Nairobi.
After breakfast you will depart for Nairobi. If you depart from Moshi you will arrive in the afternoon and if you depart from Arusha you will arrive before lunch.

Mt. Meru Climbing.

GCS-T 705: Mt. Meru Trek (5 days).

Day 1: Nairobi - Moshi.
Transfer to Moshi. Dinner and overnight at a hotel lodge / camp.

Day 2: Moshi - Momella- Miriakamaba Hut.
Estimated duration: 3 1/2 hours.
After breakfast depart Moshi at around 8:30am drive to Momella gate. Make payment and start the climb with picnic lunch to the first hut called Miriakamaba hut. Dinner and overnight at Miriakamaba hut.

Day 3: Miriakamaba Hut - Saddle Hut.
Estimated duration: 4 hours.
After breakfast. Proceed with a climb to second hut called Saddle. This is too steep part compared to the first part (2 ½ ). During the afternoon, you can decide to attempt climbing little Meru peak and back. ( 1 1/2). Dinner and overnight at Saddle hut.

Day 4: Saddle Hut - Meru Peak.
Wake up at mid-night and have a cup of tea before starting attempt big Meru peak. Proceed to summit crossing rocky path and back to Saddle hut for full breakfast. The day will be spent resting. Lunch, dinner and overnight at Saddle hut.

Day 5: Saddle Hut - Momella - Moshi.
Leave Saddle hut and descend down to Momella gate via first hut (Miriakamba) where you will be transferred to Arusha/Moshi.
